The Arts Society Englemere  is a member of TAS (The Arts Society) the leading arts charity established for furthering knowledge and appreciation of the arts.

  • Based in ASCOT, Berkshire with a thriving and lively membership of 200+.
  • Monthly lecture meetings held on the second Tuesday evening of each month (except August and December).
  • Regular visits to stately homes, museums, exhibitions. In addition an annual guided tour in the UK or abroad.
  • The Lecturers are approved by NADFAS and are of high quality and are experts in their own field.

The Collections of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great of Russia

Lecture commences at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Nicholas Merchant will talk about these early rulers of ‘modern’ Russia who were voracious collectors but in different directions and for different reasons.  Nicholas has worked as a valuer for both Phillips and Sotheby’s and has had a long term interest in antiques.  He lectures extensively in the USA, South Africa, Europe and UK, including the V&A.
