Symbols discovered beneath the floorboards at Knole House in Kent were intended to protect the building from possession by witches, demons and evil spirits.  James Wright’s talk will reveal how further research showed that the symbols were related to James I, witch trials and the Gunpowder Plot.  James is an archaeologist and historian based at the University of Nottingham who specialises in the British Mediaeval and Early Modern periods.  James has given talks to a wide variety of organisations including The National Trust and the Museum of London.
