The Arts Society Englemere  

is a member of The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS) the leading arts charity established for furthering knowledge and appreciation of the arts and is now celebrating its 50th year.


  • Based in ASCOT, Berkshire with a thriving and lively membership of 200+.
  • Monthly lecture meetings held on the second Tuesday evening of each month (except August and December).
  • Regular visits to stately homes, museums, exhibitions. In addition an annual guided tour in the UK or abroad.
  • The Lecturers are approved by The Arts Society and are of high quality and are experts in their own field.

Discovering MacDonald Gill

Appointed by the Imperial War Graves Commission, MacDonald (Max) Gill’s designs for the typeface and regimental badges have been used on every British War Memorial since 1917.  Caroline Walker’s illustrated talk presents a colourful overview of this versatile artist's personal life and artistic achievements especially his pictorial maps.  Caroline embarked on family history research in 2006. and became fascinated in the life and work of her great-uncle 'Max' Gill (1884-1947).  She has given talks for the National Archives, the Art Workers' Guild, Christie's, Friends of Kettle's Yard and the National Trust
