The Arts Society Englemere  is a member of The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS) the leading arts charity established for furthering knowledge and appreciation of the arts.

  • Based in ASCOT, Berkshire with a thriving and lively membership of 200+.
  • Monthly lecture meetings held on the second Tuesday evening of each month (except August and December).
  • Regular visits to stately homes, museums, exhibitions. In addition an annual guided tour in the UK or abroad.

Three Wise Men; Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, the Traditions of the Magi

Lecture commences at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Christopher Bradley will present the historical facts and fiction behind the Three Wise Men, the Magi, and the symbolism of their gifts.  The term 'Magi' refers to the Zoroastrian priest-sages; their adoration of the Christ child was one of the most popular religious subjects for the great artists.  Christopher is an expert in the history and culture of the Middle East and North Africa where he has travelled widely.
